The Long Road Back
As Christians, we may have a time of doubting Jesus. We may doubt his love and protection over us. Have you ever thought about how doubt is a form of faith? After all, if there were no faith, then there would be no doubt. I remember Thomas's story and how he would not believe Jesus rose from the dead and appeared to them as a person. He had to touch the wounds before he would believe. Even though Thomas doubted he had enough faith to touch the wounds. Something deep inside of him knew Jesus was telling the truth. Jesus did not drop Thomas as a disciple even though he had some doubts. Jesus continued to love and accept Thomas. This story should tell us that we should not be too hard on ourselves when we doubt ourselves as all of us will have that time. As God's Word states in John 10, "and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand. I and the Father are one." This verse means we can't even snatch ourselves out of God's hands. Our doubt will not take away our eternity with Jesus.
Sometimes it can take a while for us to work through our doubt. Once we do, we should strive never to return to that place of unbelief again. Below is a poem about how sometimes, it is a long road back to Christ and His love for his. Remember it's not God that leaves us, but it's us that stray from Him.
The Long Road Back
The long road back
is a weary road,
When you have carried
A heavy load.
But don't lose sight
Of your utmost dream,
Though now hopeless
It may seem.
God lights the way
And clears the path
Of such obstacles
As fear and wrath.
You can trust His love
And heavenly grace
To lead you to
A tranquil place.
And when you find
Sweet peace of mind,
Never wander to
That path behind.
